Residential Scrap Metal Recycling

Getting Started

We understand that coming to a new facility can be a little overwhelming, so let's give you a tour so you know what to expect.

1. When you arrive at the gate you'll see our signage and a large certified drive thru scale. If you are bringing in 40lbs or more of steel scrap or aluminum, drive onto the scale. Once the light changes from red to green drive on into the scrap yard.

2. There will be an area/pile for you to unload. Feel free to back into the area for easy unloading. If you are not sure where to unload there will be an employee to greet you who can help or  ask at our payout window.

3. Once you have unloaded your steel scrap, head back to the drive thru scale. Be sure to enter the scale the same direction as your first weighed in. Once you have received the green light we will prepare your receipt and payout.

***If you are bringing in non-ferrous scrap metal (a magnet doesn't stick to it) or less than 40lbs of steel, drive forward to our non-ferrous unloading area and put your material in a bin to be brought into building and weighed on a certified scale.

Need Help?

If you arrive and are unable to unload or unsure where to go, just ask at the small shelter. We have helpful staff and equipment ready to help!

Mostly Metal, We Take it!

The "Gold" Mine (Non-Ferrous Metals)

The magnet doesn't stick!

  • Copper: Pipes, tubing, roofing, and flashing.
  • Insulated Copper Wire: Extension cords, house wiring, and communication cables. We actually have a dedicated wire granulator on-site that eats this stuff for breakfast, so bring us your tangled messes!
  • Brass: Plumbing fixtures, valves, fittings, and yes, even that terrifying antique brass lamp from your attic.
  • Aluminum: Soda cans, siding, window frames, and gutters. (If you crushed the cans against your forehead, we’ll still buy them).
  • Stainless Steel: Kitchen sinks and appliances.

The Heavy Metal Section (Ferrous Metals)

The magnet sticks to it.

  • Household Appliances: Washers, dryers, ranges, and water heaters. (Unfortunately, dropping off your washer does not get you out of doing laundry).
  • Cast Iron: Old bathtubs, radiators, and the heavy skillets you accidentally ruined.
  • Structural Steel & Iron: Leftover pipes, beams, and angle iron from that DIY project you swore you’d finish three years ago.
  • Automotive Parts: Brake rotors, drums, and heavy engine blocks.

The "Absolutely Not" Pile (Hazardous & Explosive)

We like our yard safe, clean, and explosion-free.

  • Fluids & Liquids: Motor oil, antifreeze, paint, or chemicals. We buy the metal, not the puddle of mystery fluid it left on your driveway.
  • Sealed Tanks & Cylinders: Propane, oxygen, and freon tanks. Unless the tank is cut cleanly in half so we know it won't go boom, it stays in your truck.
  • Hazardous Materials: Asbestos, biohazards, or anything with a radiation sticker. Leave the glowing stuff to the comic book villains.

The "Not Actually Scrap Metal" Section

If it's not metal, we're not your guys.

  • General Trash & Debris: Wood, concrete, dirt, glass, and roofing shingles. We know it's tempting to clean out the whole garage at once, but we aren't the local dump!
  • Loose Tires: We can't take them. (We do not take tires with rubber).
  • Old TVs & Monitors: Those heavy, boxy 1990s CRT televisions and computer monitors.

The "Not Yours to Sell" Collection (Legal & Public Property)

We work very closely with local law enforcement. Let's keep things legal.

  • Public & Utility Property: Street signs, manhole covers, guardrails, and railroad scrap. Unless you are the mayor of Hammond or bring us verifiable official letterhead authorization, we cannot accept public property.
  • Stolen Property: We require valid IDs, keep detailed records, and have cameras everywhere. We'd hate to introduce you to the police under awkward circumstances!
